Are you frustrated that your monthly rent and utility payments aren’t getting reported to the credit bureaus? Maybe you feel like you aren’t getting the credit you deserve, because your on-time rental or utility payments aren’t reflected in your credit reports.
With BuildIt, we help you get your rent and utility payments reporting as a trade line to both major credit bureaus TransUnion and Equifax, using your payment history from your financial institution through Level Credit.
Once you’ve linked your financial institution, the system will verify and pick up the payments you have been making towards rent and utilities. Once payments are verified, they’re sent to the bureaus to be added to the reports. This process can take up to 7 business days. All future payments that are made to these trade lines are typically updated within 24 hours. Keep in mind it may take about two months before you’ll see the trade lines reported on your credit reports.
How long before my rent payments are shown on my credit report?
Here’s how rent and utility tracking works through ExtraCredit: You’ll go through the steps to link your financial institution. The system will then verify the information you added to locate your rent and utility payments. This process can take up to 7 business days. Once payments are verified, the system will send your payments for reporting to TransUnion and Equifax.
Keep in mind that this service will not report past rental payments. Only current and future payments are reported, as long as you’re signed up and using this feature. All future payments made to these trade lines are typically updated within 24 hours. Depending on the credit bureau, it may take about two months before you’ll see the rental trade line reported on your credit reports.
Can I report just utilities?
Unfortunately, the option to only report your utility payments is not available at this time. This is a feature we hope to add sometime in the near future. We aren’t certain when that will be available, but we will be sure to notify our users when it is.
How to cancel rent payment information?
If you have rental and utility payments that are currently being reported to the bureaus through BuildIt, you can submit your request to Support@Credit.com, including the specific changes you want made.
Remember, if these payments have already been reported to the bureaus and you’ve seen the positive tradeline on your reports, the tradeline will be removed and could potentially impact your score.
How to update rent payment information?
If you’re moving to a new address and would like your rental and utility payments to be reported for your new residence, it’s fairly easy to make that switch.
Click on this link and select I Moved, Now What? in the lower section of the page (make sure you’re logged in to ExtraCredit first). Follow the steps to stop your current tradeline reporting and begin the process of adding your new rental tradeline. You’ll go through the same steps as before—link your bank account and landlord's information like you did when you first set up your tradeline.
Please note that when updating your rental payments, you will be closing the previously reporting tradeline(s) and opening a new tradeline on your credit reports.
